Samsung's Omnia HD A Heavyduty MultiMedia Smartphone

Samsung has brought in a touch screen smartphones with strong multimedia functions at MWC in Barcelona.

The smartphone we are going to talk about is called as Omnia HD which is as similar as previous Samsung handset called Omnia, as per name Omnia HD is quite capable of recording videos at 720p resolution, which means high quality. Though, its 3.7 inch wide screen cannot display HD with its 360 by 640 resolution, but to over come this company provided a HDMI port to play back these videos on any HD stuffs.

Camera in handset is powerful with 8 megapixels as well as autofocus and flash. Some excellent features like geotagging and smile, face and blink detecting technology, making it very handy. Not only this, handset all provides a on-board software which enable users to edit there photos and videos.

Omnia HD is fueled by Symbian S60 5.0, therefore it became first handset to use this operating system. Symbian designed its OS for touch input, and handset will use TouchWiz user interface which will enable users to enter to different widgets by just one-click method. Provided widgets are like stock, whether, news, and other Web based information.

Connectivity options on the Omnia HD are what you'd expect from a high-end handset, including Wi-Fi, 3G, and Bluetooth. Its GPS chip can use cellular data for assisted GPS functions such as location-based services, and navigation.

40-nm Technology Will Available End Of The Year: Samsung

On Wednesday, Samsung announced that it will start selling its DRAM chip by the end of this year which is built with new 40-nm technology, which is anticipated to consume much less power than the current deployed memories chips in PCs.

With the help of this next-generation technology, Samsung is expecting to regain its lead in current economy downturn ever seen. Samsung is moving fast to bring it thinner circuitry memory chips and sustain its lead in this category.

Samsung is also planning to implies its 40-nm technology for the mass production of 2 GB DDR3 memory chips as well as for 4 GB DDR3 memory chips by the end of this year. Manufacturing cost of 40 nm chips are less expensive in compare of DDR2 components so we can expect low cost memory chips in future which are scheduled to ship in 2010.

In compare of 50 nm technology, new design chips consumes 30% less power, which means 'green technology'.
DRAM chips usually deliver system memory for desktops and laptops, as well as can be implemented for mobile device and gaming consoles. Thou Samsung has suffered some financial setbacks as a result of a market glut that has sent prices plummeting and inventories soaring.

4 GB DDR3 PC Memory Chips With 50-nm Technology: Samsung

On Thursday, Samsung announced that it has used its 50-nm circuit technology to built the first and only 4-GB DDR3 PC memory chips, which is said that it offers more capacity will requires much less power than currently available DDR3 chips.

Aim of company is to built new green generation PCs with its new technology, which will be utilized in 16-GB dual in-line memory modules or likely to be used in RDIMM for servers; 8 GB unbuffered DIMM for workstation and desktop PCs, as well as for laptop with 8 GB small outline DIMM.

DDR3 is a type of DRAM technology, which comes with a several advantages over previous technology which was DDR2. Most beneficial point of DDR3 is its data transfer rate which is high up to eight times than the previous technology, while power consumption is reduce up to 30% and that makes a big difference, in particular when we all are talking about green technology.

"We have leveraged our strength in innovation to develop the first 4-GB DDR3, in leading the industry to higher DRAM densities," Kevin Lee, VP for technical marketing at Samsung Semiconductor, said in a statement.

Samsung's new technology is capable of operating at 1.35 volts and has a maximum speed of 1.6 Gbps, (for me it is quite high). Samsung is applying its dual-die package technology to its 16-GB modules which can be combined to get one maximum 32-GB dual-die package, which is twice the capacity of products based on the previous highest chip density.

Samaung said that it will imposed its 50 nm technology to all its DRAM products. It is to be noted that, company had already released its 50 nm 2-GB DDR3 DRAM, on other hand Samsung also offers 1-GB DDR3 DRAM.

According to IDC figures, it is said that by 2011, DDR3 is expected to account about 72% of the DDR market, while 29% this year.

Samsung Gearing Up For 4G Network

Samsung Electronics stepping forward to reduce the cost of next generation handsets, by making its own WiMax and LTE baseband chips.

Samsung is one of the largest handset manufacturers in the world, while currently using chips from the companies like Broadcom, Infineon, and Qualcomm. However, the company already had experience building its own application processors and wants to reduce the amount of patent royalties it has to pay.

The company use to depend upon Qualcomm chips because Qualcomm owns much of the intellectual property related to the 3G CDMA standard. But last year Samsung diversified its chipsets to companies like Broadcom and Infineon, reporting that they do not depend on Qualcomm patents.
Though, Samsung still rely on many Qualcomm chips for few more years, since it will take a will to switch to 4G networks. But earlier this year, Texas Instruments said it would sell off its wireless baseband division, which can make a room to operate in the mobile chips. Even, Freescale also said it would consider selling its wireless chip business.

"We are also trying to develop competitive multimedia chipsets to support various multimedia functions," Young Cho Chi, senior VP of strategic planning for Samsung, told EE Times.

Samsung said that they are not sure yet that on which technology they will rely on between WiMax and LTE, because on papers LTE is providing 100 Mbps download speed. But the point is that the technology is still being established, and not expected to be widely deployed until 2010 at the earliest.

But companies like Comcast, Intel, Google, Sprint, Time Warner, and others are backing WiMax. Altho, WiMax potentially has slower maximum download speed, it's already live in Baltimore and is expanding to other markets.
